9/2 – 9/3 and 9/6 Reach Out to Drop-Outs Event Cy-Fair ISD Instructional Support Center Various High School Locations In an effort to bring students who have not re-enrolled for the 2008-2009 school year, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will participate in Expectation Graduation’s Reach Out to Dropouts Walk on Saturday, Sept. 6. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 2-3, volunteers will be needed to work phone banks—calling the homes of the students who weren’t in school for the first week to narrow the target list for the day of the walk. To find out more follow the informational link near the top of the CFISD homepage (cfisd.net). From that page, prospective volunteers can download a registration form to participate. 9/3 Teaching Information Session LSC Cy-Fair Conference Center 9191 Barker Cypress 5 p.m. Lone Star College-CyFair will host an information session on two teaching programs.The session will cover information on the Associate of Arts in Teaching/Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (AAT/BAIS) joint enrollment program, in which participants can earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston-Downtown, while taking all classes on the LSC-CyFair campus.Then at 6 p.m., those who have a bachelor’s degree will learn how to enter the teaching profession through the Alternative Certification Program.Call 281-290-3957 or go to CyFair.LoneStar.edu/tcp for information.

9/6 1st Annual Hemophilia Walk Minute Maid Park Registration for the 3K/1.9 mile walk begins at 9, with the Walk beginning at 10. Proceeds will go to research, advocacy, and education for the bleeding disorders community. To register to walk or to donate to this great cause, visit www.hemophilia.org/walk and click on the Lone Star Chapter link. Hemophilia is a rare genetic disorder that prevents the blood from clotting properly. Factor replacement therapy is the current treatment plan, at a cost of over $200,000 a year. Only 18,000 people are affected by hemophilia, but thousands more are affected by other bleeding disorders, such as vonWillebrands. There is no cure for these bleeding disorders.

During UR VOTES COUNT, teens will cast their votes for president and be able to voice their opinions on popular issues. Through 9/10 Collegiate Leadership Institute Seeking Participants Lone Star College System’s Collegiate Leadership Institute is currently seeking participants for the 2008-2009 program. CLI was created five years ago to provide an opportunity to enhance leadership skills in LSCS students while learning more about their community. The program, which begins in September 2008, consists of six sessions including a service project and concludes in April 2009 with a graduation ceremony. Applicants must have the ability and commitment to attend all of the sessions, be currently enrolled at a Lone Star College campus or center, and plan to enroll for fall 2008 and spring 2009. A selection committee from each campus will review the applicants and make final selections. Applications are available online at CyFair.LoneStar.edu/studentactivities or at all LSCS student activities offices. Through 11/10 Fall Ladies’ Bible Study The fall Ladies’ Bible Study will be Living Beyond Yourself – Exploring the Fruits of the Spirit by Beth Moore. This will be an 11-week study.
